About Michael

Born and raised in Langley, British Columbia, Michael Pratt has been passionate about public service since a young age. He co-founded the non-profit Langley Youth for the Fallen with his older sister when he was 13, and after two years, countless hours, and over $100,000 raised, “A Walk to Remember” was born. The memorial dedicated to the men and women who fell serving Canada in the Afghan War was officially opened on November 11, 2012, and is located at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum.

Community service has been an important part of his life for years, beginning with his volunteerism in high school, serving on the Commerce Undergraduate Society as Chairperson and on the UBC Senate throughout his undergraduate degree, and culminating with his campaign for Township of Langley Council in 2018, when he was 377 votes shy of being elected.

Since the 2018 election, Michael served as Secretary and now Director of the Alder Grove Heritage Society, where he helped to ensure the preservation of the Volunteer Fire Hall (also formerly known as the Milsean Shoppe), one of Aldergrove's few remaining heritage structures. He also served on the Township of Langley's Heritage Advisory Committee, and since 2019 has served on the Recreation, Culture, and Parks Advisory Committee as well.

Most recently, he was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Langley School District Foundation, where he has the privilege to work towards "making learning unforgettable for every Langley student". As an alumnus of Brookswood Secondary School, the value of the Foundation's work is obvious to him. He also serves as a Director for the Mountain Valley Express Collective Society, with a vision to connect the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, and Sea-to-Sky Corridor with fast, reliable express rail.

When he's not enjoying one of Langley's outstanding parks (here's looking at you, Campbell Valley), Michael works as a land-use consultant, pours beers at one of Langley's favourite breweries on weekends, is working towards his Master's in Urban Studies from Simon Fraser University, and serves as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve.
